The teacher in their classroom is very busy, even when they seem to be relaxing at their desk while the students work quietly on their own. Ini the beginning of the day the teacher welcomes the students to class and then explains what activities and lessons the class will do that day. The teacher I observed had set up her daily lesson plans/ schedule so that the students would correct their previous math homework and then transition to the new math lesson making it easier for the students to understand the new material. After the lesson was done the teacher gave the class a break where they could go outside with the other classes in their grade. The teachers took a turn each week to watch the students so the others could prepare for their next lesson. Teachers would run make copies of the upcoming assignments, or set up stations for the science section they were working on that day.
Teachers didn't take a break like the students did; they worked till the students returned from their break, and then moved on to their lessons. After the teacher was done explaining to the students what they were supposed to do for the science experiment portion of the lesson they walked around the classroom observing the students and offering help when they needed it. This was when I saw the Social Learning Theory as a big part of the classroom because students were basing what they did off of what they saw others doing and how the teacher reacted towards them.
Some of the students got really excited when their experiments worked, and the teacher shared their joy. At that small moment of shared joy the students saw the teacher as an equal, a friend. The students looked to the teacher for support, and to share in their joy when things were turning out right. This pattern continued throughout the whole day. After about half the day had passed and lunchtime rolled around students begged the teacher to come eat with them and not with the other faculty. The students really enjoyed their teacher as a friend which helped them respect them even more.
During lunch I helped the teacher finish up some of the unfinished projects and lessons for later on in the week. The teacher is continuously preparing for up coming lessons and adjusting lessons based on the classes behavior and their reactions to different styles of presentation of the lesson. The teacher helped other teachers by making an additional classroom copy of worksheets and trading them for lesson plans they had made. the teacher worked with the students all day, and cooperated with the other teachers to make lessons go better for everyone.
